Digizens Collaborative Lounches CTSC program

Digizens Collaborative hereby announces the kickoff of the City Technology Solutions Challenge (CTSC) 2020. The CTSC program aims to power city solutions proposed by project teams based in the host cities. Submission of project proposals opened on 25th November 2019 and closes February 7, 2020. Prospective projects are expected to focus any of the following areas: Green Energy/Environmental Control, Education, Health, Transportation/Traffic Management, Agriculture, Water. Project designs are also expected to meet the underlisted criteria: scalable, interoperable, replicable, repeatable and measurable.

To facilitate the technology commercialization efforts of selected project teams, Digizens Collaborative partnered with the USA based The Kauffman FastTrac Techventure based to offer a highly effective training support component of the CTSC. The course is a mix of onsite training, online support and mentoring and is made possible through a committed group of Entrepreneurship Support Organisations.

The course which starts on the 21st of February 2020 to 26th February 2020 will discuss current trends in market analysis and business planning as well as effective strategies to access financing sources and strategic partners. Goals will include improving elevator pitch, investor presentation and business plan.

The TechVenture modules are as follows:

  • Exploring Entrepreneurship
  • Defining the Target Market
  • Conducting Market Research and Analysis
  • Testing Your Business Concept
  • Entering and Capturing the Market
  • Planning for Financial Success
  • Building and Compensating Your Organizational Team
  • Protecting the Business and Your Intellectual Property
  • Identifying Funding and Working with Investors
  • Managing Cash and Operating your Business

There is a strong online and mentorship aspect which includes homework prior to commencement that would require the teams to have interviews with 10 potential customers, a review of the lean start-up and business model canvas. This will be from 10th – 20th February 2020.

At the end of the 5-day Techventure course, teams will be carefully selected to pitch their business plans to show how they would have solved a problem in their host community using technology, while making profit in their businesses.

37 selected project teams will be invited to participate in the program as well as pitch at the Digizens’ Launch Event on 28th February 2020.

This course is very well thought through and is a proven entrepreneurial training course designed to help technology/science-based entrepreneurs. So, there will be a 2nd phase of the Kauffmann Techventure Course; online training and mentoring which will commence on 4th May 2020, where successful teams will continue to receive support and mentorship on how to run their businesses.

They will get the chance to exhibit their businesses at the maiden City Innovation Expo and Awards, holding on August 24th and 25th 2020 at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja where the top three projects will be awarded cash prizes of between $3000 to $10000.
